The Poseidon Adventure

We survived the Great Barrier Reef on the unfortunately named catamaran Poseidon. It was another great day here in Australia. We headed north an hour out of Port Douglas along the Coral Sea. It was sunny and there was not a cloud to be seen. Water got a little choppy on our way out but thankfully we thought ahead and took some nausea meds, no free food for you fishies!

We met some nice people on the boat. A handful of Canadians, and two other Americans. It's the first time we've heard people with our accents thus far. We made a buddy pack with a couple from Montreal, David and Marco. Basically the deal was we would make sure they were on the boat before we left the reef and vice versa. David looked almost identical to Jon Hamm from Mad Men, he even had an identical voice, sigh. Marco wasn't bad in the looks department either, he had a bit of French accent.

The sun was intense, the most intense the three of us have ever felt. We applied and reapplied sunscreen but we still managed to get a little burned, Mandy has the tanning gene we didn't inherit so no burn for her. Lucky.

We stopped along three different sections of the Agincourt Ribbon Reefs. The first was called Chapel and the second was Phil's Backside (oddly named). We can't remember the name of the third.

Only one shark sighting and it was just a little reef shark, about 4 feet long. We saw lots of really colorful fish and corals, as well as some stunning giant clams. We missed out on seeing any turtles or stingrays, wasn't meant to be this time.

Best news is we did not get left behind!

Check out some of the underwater shots we got.

Tonight we went out on the town for trivia night at Paddy's Pub. We don't want to brag, but we will. We placed second and won the best team name category. We were the Albino Wombats. We pretty much cleaned up on prizes too, we won a lunch voucher for the team name. Trish won a shirt and a flag and Jen won a shirt too. Awesome.

Gram showed up while were at the pub. Now we don't want to sound all hokey and spiritual, but this is certainly an odd coincidence. The last two questions were oddly Gram themed. Answer to first question was Trinidad & Tobago. Gram lived there while she was a young girl, and it's not a common country to talk about really. The final question asked "The Grand Slam occurs in Tennis and what card game?" The answer was Bridge. Gram was not only a huge tennis fan she was also a major Bridge player. She played at least three days a week at the country club. My eyes welled up a bit as he read off those final answers. Jen and I feel as if Gram was saying, "Hey I'm here with you, and you girls need to wear some different t-shirts, I'm sick of seeing the other ones. So, thanks Gram, we hear you loud and clear.

Daniel, I received a compliment today on my Chelanigans shirt. The guy actually thought it was a pub shirt from the states. Sweet news since that was my goal with the design. Anyhow, he wanted to trade shirts, but the dude was for sure not an American Apparel size S. Anyhow, I told him I'd get him one and mail it down. Re-
order time! He'd like an Asphalt AA shirt in size Large. Chelanigans is going global! Woot!

Love, T&J
P.S. At the marina in a slip directly across from the Poseidon was a boat very similar to our maternal grandparent's boat, the Copasetic.
